About me

Irene Guzmán Alcón is a professor in the Department of  English Studies at the faculty of humanities and social sciences at the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón (Spain). She holds a MA in English Language Teaching in Multilingual Contexts (MELACOM) and a MA in English Language Teaching in Secondary Education. She is currently in a Postdoctoral Orientation Period (POP)  as part of a grant from the Universitat Jaume. Therefore, she is a member of LAELA (Applied Linguistics to the Teaching of the English Language) research group.
Irene has had a worldwide education and consequently the opportunity to be in contact with different nationalities. As a result, she have fully achieved international awareness which is so needed to teach future students. Moreover, she has had the opportunity to be in several schools all around the world and has been an English teacher in a British School for a couple of years. Additionally, through her learning experience, she has experienced different ways of teaching whether it may be in the USA, Europe, or Asia. 
As a Researcher, in her current job, not only she has had the chance to present her work at numerous international conferences, but also she has had the chance to publish in international journals such as the Canadian journal, ELT. Furthermore, her research interests include third language acquisition, affective factors, young language learners, CLIL, and multilingual education. As a researcher,  she has had the chance to conduct research stays around the world. 
Irene is a perfectionist, who is eager to accept demanding challenges in which she strives to perform outstandingly. This spirit of perseverance has followed her all her life and has pushed her, for example, to win medals in National Gymnastics Championship. Finally, she is very lucky to know five languages; Spanish and Catalan (native), English (fluent), French ( professional level), and German (basic level).
